We now have a Guiding Teacher!
We're pleased to announce that Zen Master Hae Kwang (Stan Lombardo) has agreed to serve our community as Guiding Teacher. He was recently approved by the Kwan Um School. We look forward to his February visit.
Stan received teaching transmission from Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1992 and transmission as a Zen Master in 1998. He is editor and co-editor of three of Zen Master Seung Sahn's books (Bone of Space, Only Don't Know, and Ten Gates).
A Classics professor at the University of Kansas, Stan has published translations of Greek poetry and philosophy, including translations of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. He has also co-authored a translation of the Tao Te Ching.
...and an Abbot!
At our December board meeting we chose Senior Dharma Teacher Harold Rail as Abbot, and he recently gave his first consultation interviews in Palatine.
Harold completed the winter Kyol Che (3 month retreat) in Providence last year. He leads practice in his home and is committed to our quest for a Kwan Um Zen Center in the Greater Chicago area.
